Johann Sebastian Bach composed the acclaimed Kaffe-Kantate, or Coffee Cantata, as a satire on German xenophobia in the early 18th century. The Coffee Cantata tells of a girl who refuses to give up coffee despite her father's strong objections, which paralleled the German skepticism of the "foreign" beverage. Germany did not widely accept coffee until the mid to late 18th century, and is now one of the top coffee consuming countries worldwide.
